Podcaster Louis McCaffrey has recently been talking about Albian Ajeti and his situation at Celtic right now.

McCaffrey was recently hosting the latest episode of the Cynic Weekly podcast and the panel discussed many issues around the Parkhead club. McCaffrey focused on Ajeti and his situation at the club. The host made it clear that he’s frustrated about the summer signing’s fitness issues.

Starting with an easy one - which club did Celtic sign Moussa Dembele from?

Ajeti arrived at Celtic from West Ham on a permanent basis earlier this summer for a fee of £4.5 million. He has already scored two Premiership goals for the Hoops so far, but he has made it clear that his fitness issues are ‘frustrating’ and he’s training ‘really hard’ to get rid of those problems.

McCaffrey made his own frustration very clear about the striker’s lack of fitness. While discussing Celtic’s upcoming game against Ross County, he said: “Hopefully, it will be the first time that we get to see Eddie and Ajeti playing together. Ajeti played obviously an international game the other day. Hopefully, he’s getting closer.

Are you annoyed by Ajeti's fitness issues?

“I’m sick of hearing this ‘he’s not fit yet’. It’s doing my nut in. He’s training every day, surely? If we were out running every day, we’d be getting fitter, wouldn’t we?”

TIF Thoughts…

Ajeti is actually yet to start a single game for Celtic this season and he has played only 64 minutes of first-team football for the club. All of his four appearances have come from the bench in the current campaign.

So it understandable why McCaffrey and other Celtic fans might be frustrated about Ajeti, but it is important to keep in mind that his last start at the club level came back in January for West Ham in an FA Cup game against West Brom. He hasn’t made a single start since then.

It shows that he hasn’t played too much football over the last few months and that might be a reason why he’s taking time to get his fitness back on track. Celtic fans should understand that and be patient about their new striker.
