Many Tottenham Hotspur fans have been discussing the latest news update that recently emerged on Twitter.

The Athletic recently talked about Tottenham’s striker situation and said that Spurs are ‘unlikely’ to pay the quoted £15-20 million price for Bournemouth’s Joshua King. The article went on to claim that Watford striker Troy Deeney happens to be a ‘possible alternative’ for the Lilywhites.

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

This update was relayed on Twitter by The Spurs Web. It caught the attention of many Spurs fans, who made their opinion clear about the club’s links with a move for Deeney.

The report from The Athletic also revealed that Spurs were ‘certainly interested’ in signing Ollie Watkins before he left Brentford to join Aston Villa recently. The north London club backed away from moving for the striker as the price for him escalated.

Some other Spurs fans though, were also not happy that the club is interested in signing Deeney.

Deeney, currently 32, is valued at £5.85m by Transfermarkt. For Watford last season, the Englishman scored ten goals in the Premier League and even racked up two assists. He also captained the club on multiple occasions (as per Transfermarkt).

In the 2018/19 campaign, he scored 11 times in all competitions and he racked up five assists in 37 appearances. All this shows that Deeney is a decent goalscorer and he clearly has a lot of Premier League experience. The fact that he’s captained the club as well shows that he’s got some good leadership skills too.

He clearly has a pretty cheap value and may not cost Spurs as much as Bournemouth want for King. So if Spurs are looking for a back-up striker, Deeney might suit their demands.
