Celtic podcaster Paul John Dykes has been discussing the possibility of Hibernian manager Jack Ross taking over from Neil Lennon as the Hoops boss at the end of the season.

This comes after Dykes recently hosted the latest episode of Hoops-themed podcast A Celtic State Of Mind where he spoke about a variety of subjects related to the Scottish club.

Which player played the highest number of minutes in all competitions for Celtic in the 2019/20 season?

On the subject of whether or not Lennon should continue as Celtic manager if the Hoops win the Premiership title this year, Dykes had this to say on whether or not Ross should be the man to take over from Lennon.

He said: “I’ve heard Jack Ross and Celtic being used quite a bit in the same breath, and I’ve said on this podcast a number of times, I like Jack Ross as a manager. I think that what he’s done so far, I mean, even Sunderland when you think about it – I know he was sacked, but as part of his development, it was an important part of his development.

“Is he at a standard that you would expect as a Celtic manager? I asked somebody in the game, and their view on it was that Jack Ross, there’s something missing to his managerial game and the something that he felt was missing was the ability – which is a great ability in football – to take risks, but the risks that sometimes you need to take; he plays it too safe.

“I don’t know if that would prevent him from being a future Celtic manager. I think he would still need to do more than he has done presently, however, ask me at the end of the season, because I’ve tipped Hibs, not to win the league, but I’ve tipped them to be pushing for second.”

Ross was appointed as Hibs manager back in November 2019 and is expected to remain as their manager until his current contract runs out at the end of June 2023. Since he was appointed, Ross has taken charge of 30 games as Hibs boss in which they have won 15, drawn seven and lost eight games in total, resulting in Ross averaging a total of 1.73 points per game (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

It’ll be interesting to see what happens at Celtic at the end of the season and whether or not Lennon will continue at the club or whether they will look to hire someone else to replace him.

With Dykes expecting Hibs to have a strong season this year, this shows that he thinks Ross might be a suitable replacement for Lennon if he does leave the club at the end of the campaign.
