Paul John Dykes has recently been talking about Odsonne Edouard and he has discussed the Frenchman’s future at Celtic.
Dykes was hosting the latest episode of A Celtic State of Mind podcast and he discussed many issues involving the Parkhead-based club. He focused on Edouard’s situation at Celtic and he said that while he doesn’t want the Frenchman to leave at any cost, Celtic shouldn’t sell him short if clubs do come calling for the striker.
Edouard’s agent has already confirmed that the striker is ‘happy’ at Celtic and the club’s chase of their tenth Premiership title in a row is ‘important’ for him too. Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Edouard and Monaco had an approach rejected for him back in January.
Dykes believes that Celtic shouldn’t sell Edouard short if clubs come calling for him and he doesn’t want the striker to leave the club for any fee right now.
Is Edouard's future at Celtic under threat?
Yes
No
He said: “We know if Edouard signs for an English team or does what [Moussa] Dembele did and goes back to one of the big French sides and starts to score goals, gets capped for France, the figure then – you’re talking £60, £70, £80 [million]; it goes into a different stratosphere.
“I don’t want him to go for anything. I don’t want Edouard to go for any fee. We’ve got trophies to win this season. He’s a big part of that, for me. But when the time comes, we can’t sell him short.”
TIF Thoughts…
Edouard finished as the highest scorer in the Premiership last season and also ended up winning the Celtic Player of the Year award because of his contributions to the Hoops. He has found the back of the net four times in all competitions already this season and this includes a hat-trick against Hamilton in the first game of the campaign.
This shows how valuable a player Edouard is for Celtic and how much importance he carries for Neil Lennon’s men. Because of his goalscoring abilities, the 22-year-old could be vital for the club in helping them win their 10th Premiership title in a row this season. So keeping a player like him might have to be a priority for Celtic.
