Newcastle United journalist Lee Ryder has been sharing his thoughts on the potential next steps regarding the collapsed Saudi-backed takeover of the Tyneside club.

This comes after Ryder recently made an appearance on The Chronicle’s Everything is Black and White Podcast where he discussed the latest news concerning the Toon at the moment.

To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

After he was asked what would happen if the Saudi-backed consortium didn’t take the matter to arbitration, Ryder had this to say on the matter.

He said: “I just think it becomes an even messier situation for Mike Ashley, because once he’s in a battle with somebody, it gets difficult, doesn’t it; do the Premier League stop giving Newcastle as many games on TV?

“Anything could happen, and it’s a big worry for Newcastle fans because really, it should be about football, it shouldn’t be about politics and takeovers. That’s not what attracted me to the football club when I first went up to St. James’ Park.”

After MP Chi Onwurah wrote a letter to Premier League chief Richard Masters for some clarity over why the Premier League failed to come to a decision over whether the Saudi-backed takeover could go through or not, Masters responded claiming that a decision could not be made over which part of the consortium would be the owner of the club.

Masters also claimed that the Premier League “offered the consortium the ability to have the matter determined by an independent arbitral tribunal if it wished to challenge the conclusion” made by the board, to which they declined.

Are you confident this takeover situation will be resolved anytime soon?

TIF Thoughts…

Considering what Ryder said in the podcast, you would think that the consortium would be open to going to arbitration if they are confident of their case being approved.

This would finally get a decision on the matter and not let the situation get any messier as Ryder said.
