Celtic legend Chris Sutton has recently been talking about Greg Taylor and his current situation at Parkhead.

Taylor joined Celtic from Kilmarnock in September 2019. He could only make 12 Premiership appearances for Celtic in the 2019/20 campaign but has been a regular for the club in the current season.

Which player played the highest number of minutes in all competitions for Celtic in the 2019/20 season?

Sutton was a guest on the latest episode of the Record Celtic podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys. One player that they focused on was Taylor. Sutton believes that Celtic can do better than Taylor and the jury is still out on the Scotsman.

He said: “I still think that the jury is out on Greg Taylor. I get the arguments, I think I saw it last season – he doesn’t have the ability, when he’s playing in the wing-back role – he doesn’t have a trick, he’s not in a situation where he can really work half a yard on his own and whip a ball in. When he gets the ball actually put out to him and he has time to cross a ball, his delivery is very good.

Do Celtic need a better left-back than Greg Taylor?

Yes

No

“And you’d have to say, defensively, at times, could he be a little bit better? Could he work harder to stop crosses? Yes, he could. I think he’s okay, but I think Celtic can do better.”

TIF Thoughts…

Taylor has made six Premiership appearances this season and he played a couple of games in the club’s UEFA Champions League qualifying games as well. He has directly contributed to five goals in all competitions in the current campaign (as per Transfermarkt).

He has picked up a rating of 7.02 for his performances in the Premiership this season and has been the club’s ninth-best player in the campaign. So Taylor has had a decent season so far.

The fact that Celtic are looking to sign a left-back might suggest that the club wants someone who is better than Taylor, or just someone to provide more competition.
