The Athletic reporter Tim Spiers has recently shed light on what supporters can expect from Wolverhampton Wanderers in terms of incoming players.

In the current transfer window so far, the Old Gold have sunk just less than £38m into incoming players and sealed the arrival of three signings (per Transfermarkt).

Matija Sarkic arrived on a free transfer from Aston Villa first, followed by Fabio Silva, who arrived for a club-record fee of £35.6m from Porto and most recently, Marcal joined from Lyon for around £1.78m.

So, in the latest episode of The Athletic’s The Molineux View podcast, Spiers discussed what Wolves fans can expect from the club over the remainder of the window.

To kick off this quiz on Wolves' 2019/20 season, which side did the Old Gold's first win of the Premier League term come against?

He said: “There’s a bit of a clash between what fans want and what Nuno [Espirito Santo]’s going to give them.

“The bottom line is, the squad needs a bit of a refresh, but he still wants a very small squad – that’s not going to change. So, there won’t be a glut of incomings over the next few weeks.

“I think fans will just have to trust in what Wolves are doing and [after] what they’ve given them over the last three years, I would have thought there’d have been a little bit more patience.

“The meltdown [from fans on social media] shocked me, and I’ve seen a few in the last few years, but the [Matt] Doherty meltdown and the lack of signings meltdown and the lack of trust in Fosun – that shocked me, to be honest.

“Considering what Wolves have done in the last three years, their record on first-team recruitment has been exceptional. So, I think Wolves have probably been a bit alarmed at that as well, really.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what the journalist had to say, he believes Wolves fans may not have a large swell of incoming signings to look forward to but they should still trust the club.

He also makes his surprise at the response that he’s seen from the Molineux faithful on social media to the club’s transfer dealings clear; something which he believes has also “alarmed” the Old Gold.

Has the reaction from Wolves fans on social media been over the top?

Yes, it's been ridiculous

No, it's been justified

So, perhaps supporters will just have to trust the club as Spiers suggests and not expect many, if any, signings before Wolves’ Premier League campaign begins on Monday.
