Duncan Castles has been speaking on the latest edition of The Transfer Window podcast about Wolverhampton Wanderers.

A nice easy one to start off with. Who scored Newcastle's opening goal of the 2020/21 PL season?

One of the topics that came up was Wolves’ apparent willingness to sell one or both of Adama Traore and Raul Jimenez.

It seems as if Wolves were expecting to sell the duo for substantial sums and thought they could get €100m (£91.67m) for Traore, but it doesn’t look like they are selling either player, as it stands.

He said: “We had a scenario where Wolves were prepared to sell Adama Traore and Raul Jimenez this summer and hoping for extremely substantial transfer fees for those two.

“In Adama Traore’s case, with strong interest from Manchester City, they were pricing him [at] €150m and thought they could get over €100m [before the pandemic].”

He then talked about Jimenez and revealed that it looks like he will be staying at Molineux this season.

“They don’t think they’re going to get the money they wanted from one of his suitors, which included expressions of interest from Manchester United and Juventus.”

Are you happy Wolves are keeping Jimenez and Traore?

Yes, they are brilliant

Yes, they are brilliant

No, we could have sold them

No, we could have sold them

TIF Thoughts…

Since this podcast was released, Wolves have sold Diogo Jota to Liverpool for a fee that could rise to £45m with add-ons, so they have made some money from that sale at least.

Wolves appear poised to reinvest that money in Nelson Semedo, who looks set to join from Barcelona for £29m.

So, in the end, Wolves look to have kept Jimenez, who scored 27 goals in all competitions last season, and Traore, who provided 12 assists last year.

In comparison, Jota scored fewer goals than Jimenez and provided fewer assists than Traore, so by going off those stats, you could argue that Wolves have done well to keep Traore and Jimenez and sell Jota while still being able to bring a sizeable transfer fee.

Of course, there is still time for things to change, but Wolves will keep Jimenez and Traore as it stands.
