The Athletic reporter Roshane Thomas has recently discussed the transfer link between West Ham United and Brentford’s Rico Henry.

As claimed in a report by the Daily Mail last month, David Moyes’ outfit is eyeing a move for the 23-year-old left-back.

However, the Hammers are not alone in their supposed interest in the Englishman as Brighton & Hove Albion, Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion were also touted.

A report on Henry from The Sun later in August also mentioned that Aston Villa were keen alongside Leeds and Brighton but made no mention of the Irons.

So, in the latest episode of The Athletic’s U Irons podcast, Thomas discussed West Ham’s interest in Henry and aired his belief that he would be a good signing.

To kick off this quiz on West Ham's 2019/20 season, which side did the Hammers' first win of the term come against?

He said: “Yeah, we need to replace [Aaron Cresswell] and, as we mentioned, Rico Henry would be an ideal replacement so that Cresswell could be a squad player.”

The podcast’s host, Sam Delaney, then followed Thomas’ statement up by asking: “Is it true that Moyes is still trying to make his mind up on whether or not he thinks Rico Henry is good enough?”

To which Thomas replied: “Yeah, he’s still deciding on that one. To be honest, in terms of left-back and centre-half, the priority for Moyes is centre-half.

“He wants to bring a central defender in because he holds the opinion that Cresswell and [Arthur] Masuaku [are] decent for the time being.

“Obviously with Stuart Pearce coming back, he was a former left-back for the club, he could perhaps work on their defensive [ability] and get them to improve.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what the journalist had to say, it seems that Moyes is still deciding over whether he would like to make a transfer swoop to sign Henry from the Bees.

During the 2019/20 Championship season, the 23-year-old defender earned a 6.83/10 average rating in the Championship for Brentford (per WhoScored).

His average rating in the second tier of English football made him only the ninth-best performer for the Bees, so, perhaps it is clear to see why Moyes is in two minds over the defender.
