Luke Hatfield and Joseph Masi discussed all the latest West Bromwich Albion news on the most recent edition of the Express and Star’s Baggies Broadcast podcast. During the show, Masi spent some time talking about the possibility of Albion signing Watford’s Andre Gray.

At the beginning of this week, BirminghamLive published an article in which they claimed that West Brom are ‘desperate to add a further attacker to their ranks’ for the 2020/21 Premier League campaign and that article also stated that Huddersfield Town’s Karlan Grant is ‘high up on their shortlist.’

After discussing the Baggies’ pursuit of Grant and explaining that the Terriers have set an asking price of £16m for the player during this recent edition of the Baggies Broadcast podcast, Masi went on to say that Albion have got other potential targets at the centre forward position – one being Watford striker Gray.

He said: “What I understand is they’ve obviously got other irons in the fire, one of them is Andre Gray.

“I think Andre Gray on loan is basically very, very possible and Albion could probably do that deal tomorrow, but at this moment in time, they’re going after Grant.”

After sharing this information with regard to the Baggies’ pursuit of Gray, Masi went on to share that he doesn’t think that Gray would be a bad signing for Slaven Bilic’s side.

He said: “I think Andre Gray could do well. He didn’t score a lot of goals last season, but you look at the seasons before that, he’s sort of got around 10 in the Premier League.”

TIF Thoughts…

Judging by Masi’s comments, it seems as though the Baggies have got a loan move for Gray lined up as a backup option should the club fail to secure the signing of Grant from Huddersfield and the Express and Star journalist seems to be confident about Albion’s chances of pulling off that signing, should they make the call to try and actually complete the signing of the Watford man on loan.

While Masi seems to think that Gray would not be a bad option for the Baggies, the striker is coming off the back of a poor 2019/20 Premier League campaign in which the 29-year-old scored just two goals in 23 top-flight appearances for the Hornets.

He ended the campaign with an overall WhoScored rating of just 6.15 for the 2019/20 league season, which made him the lowest-rated player to have started more than one game in the league last term for a Watford side that ended up being relegated.

As a result, we feel that Albion may be better off focusing on other targets.
