Spurs fans on Twitter have flocked to a tweet from Football.london journalist Alasdair Gold regarding Roma winger Nicolo Zaniolo, who is valued at £49.5 million (as per Transfermarkt).
The journalist quoted a tweet from injury analyst Ben Dinnery, which suggests that the 21-year-old Roma man has suffered an ACL injury, which is the second time he has suffered such a major injury in his career. Gold shared his opinion on the injury, saying: “What a nightmare for such a young player.”
Spurs had been linked with a move for the Italian international earlier in the window as a potential target for the future, although it seems as if the new Roma owners made it clear that they didn’t want to see him leave. However, after the winger suffered another ACL injury playing against the Netherlands for his national team earlier this week, it seems as if any potential Spurs move for the youngster any time soon is well and truly off the table.
Do you think this means the end of Spurs' reported interest in Zaniolo for the future?
Yes
No
Reaction from Spurs fans to Gold’s post can be seen in the tweets below.
Terrible for him, more worrying that spurs potentially wanted to pay big money for such an injury risk…no wonder we have the Dr Hotspur nonsense at the club not just for helping struggling opposition but we must have injury bonuses

Doubt we’ll ever get him as there seems to be a issue with his knees. He basically was just running and broke down. Sad as he has so much promise

Horrible. But if AS Roma would have agreed to sell him to us, oh boy… we got lucky this time

Plenty of Spurs fans shared Gold’s disappointment that a promising player such as Zaniolo has suffered another big injury, but also seem relieved that the Lilywhites hadn’t brought him in earlier in the window.
Guess we won’t be buying him anymore then

A Lamela replacement in more ways than one

One Spurs fan joked that Levy might be keen to sign him now, perhaps due to the injury problems the north London club faced last season.
Levy preparing a bid…

Overall, it seems as if the majority of Spurs fans were saddened to hear the news on Zaniolo and perhaps feel that Spurs’ interest in the 21-year-old might now decrease somewhat due to his obvious injury concerns.
