On the latest video of his YouTube channel, Football.london reporter Alasdair Gold has been discussing the latest goings-on at Tottenham Hotspur, reflecting on the 1-0 loss against Everton last weekend, and shedding some light on the latest transfer rumours surrounding the club.

One topic of discussion on his recent video was Spurs midfielder Tanguy Ndombele. The French midfielder came off the bench in the recent defeat against the Toffees but was unable to turn the game around, as the Lilywhites fell to a 1-0 defeat against Carlo Ancelotti’s side (per BBC).

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move away from Spurs throughout the summer transfer window but Gold has earmarked him for a major role in Jose Mourinho’s side during the 2020/21 campaign.

1. Spurs signed Alfie Devine from which League One club?

Here’s what the journalist had to say about the former Lyon man during his video:

“Ndombele, he only returned from injury two days before the Watford friendly, so he’s had about 7-9 days. Essentially, all the time before that, he was injured, from when he had the knee injury in training towards the end of the season, so, yes, his fitness is way behind everyone else.

“But what gave me massive hope was the way that Mourinho spoke about him pre-match. He was really singing his praises, he’s actually never seen him look better in training than the way he has and he’s worked incredibly hard.”

TIF Thoughts…

Gold certainly seems to think that Ndombele could be set for much more of a prominent role this season, based on some of Mourinho’s comments from before the game against the Toffees. It will be interesting to see if the Frenchman starts against Lokomotiv Plovdiv in Spurs’ next game on Thursday, where an impressive performance could see the 23-year-old really put himself in contention for a starting spot in their next Premier League fixture away at Southampton.

Do you think Ndombele can be a key player next season?

No

If Ndombele can solve the fitness issues that caused him so many problems last season, and more consistently produce some of the displays he did in the Champions League, where he averaged an impressive 7.34 rating across six appearances (per Whoscored), then there is no reason why he can’t establish himself as a key member of Mourinho’s squad.
