In the latest video for his YouTube channel, Football.london journalist Alasdair Gold has been discussing the latest goings-on at Tottenham Hotspur, reflecting on their 1-0 defeat against Everton last weekend, and also sharing some of the latest transfer news surrounding the north London club.

One topic of discussion on his recent video was Eintracht Frankfurt striker Bas Dost. Spurs were linked with a move for the 31-year-old striker earlier this month, as the north London club look to bring in a backup striker to Harry Kane before the transfer window closes in early October.

1. Spurs signed Alfie Devine from which League One club?

The Dutch forward is reportedly available for £5.5 million, stands at 6 ft 5 in and has goalscoring pedigree with the likes of Sporting and Wolfsburg, so could perhaps provide a short-term resolution to Jose Mourinho’s lack of striker options.

Here’s what Gold had to say about Spurs’ potential interest in Dost during his video:

“The other one that came out [on Monday] night, which was an odd one in a way, but kind of makes sense when you look at it a bit deeper, was a guy called Bas Dost.

“31-year-old, 6 ft 5, classic Mourinho archetype, plays for Eintracht Frankfurt. I’m told his agent is putting him around a lot of clubs, he is certainly being put out there.

“He scored 10 goals in the Bundesliga last year, but actually, people might mock him, if you have a look at his scoring record before that in Portugal, it’s actually quite phenomenal. I think it’s something like 83 goals in 108 appearances [Dost scored 93 in 127 appearances for Sporting], something like that – he scored a hell of a lot of goals in Portugal, phenomenal amount. We’re talking like almost 30 a season.

“But yes, he is 31, and I think with him, it’s about the price, he’s only £6/£7 million, if that. I haven’t really dug deep into this one to really inquire whether it’s one that Tottenham are looking at or whether it’s just agent talk. But I do feel he’d tick some boxes.

“I think if you’re getting him, you need to bring in a couple of strikers. I don’t think he’s your answer – but if it is a player that Spurs are looking at – [but] I think the reaction to his signing would not be a great one. Do I think he could be a [Fernando] Llorente-type? Certainly from his record, I’d say he actually scores more goals.”

TIF Thoughts…

From what Gold suggests, the Dost rumours may have emerged as a result of his agent putting him out there, however, he seems to think that he could do a job similar to Llorente, who contributed 13 goals and six assists for Tottenham in 66 appearances (per Transfermarkt), before joining Napoli on a free transfer last summer.

It certainly seems as if Dost is available for cheap and he has shown he can score goals throughout his career, so perhaps it would be worth Spurs bringing him to North London in the current transfer window.
