During the latest video for his YouTube channel, Football.london reporter Alasdair Gold has been discussing the latest goings-on at Tottenham Hotspur, reflecting on the 2-1 friendly defeat against Watford and shedding some light on some of the transfer business that the Lilywhites could do before the end of the window.

One topic of discussion on his recent video was Napoli striker and reported Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Arkadiusz Milik. The Poland international, who has just one year left on his contract with the Serie A side, has been linked with a move to the north London club in the past, although his agent seemingly wasn’t keen on the former Ajax man potentially playing second fiddle to Harry Kane.

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

Here’s what Gold had to say about the 26-year-old on his video:

“Milik from Napoli is another one that they certainly looked at earlier in the summer. His agent made a big deal about the Harry Kane thing and how he wouldn’t go anywhere without a guarantee, he wanted to play minutes. I think his agent even said he would only come to Tottenham if Harry Kane wasn’t there.

“With Milik, I think from everything I understand, he is one they’ve moved away from this summer. [There’s] a lot of interest in him in Italy and I do wonder whether it’s because of this lack of interest in coming to Spurs to play second fiddle and also, I think the price. I think personally, that Spurs are looking for a deal for a striker to be under £20 million, and I do feel with Milik, it’s going to be over that.”

TIF Thoughts…

Although Milik is currently valued at £28.8 million by Transfermarkt, which backs up Gold’s suggestion that he would probably cost more than £20 million, the fact he has just one year left on his contract perhaps means that the Lilywhites would be able to negotiate a lower price for the striker this summer, as Napoli may be keen to sell him rather than potentially losing him on a free transfer next summer.

Do you want Spurs to try and sign Milik this summer?

Considering the Polish forward contributed 11 goals in 26 top-flight appearances last season, he may be worth the risk for Spurs to bring him in this summer, but as Gold suggests, he may not want to be a back-up to Kane, and therefore it may prove a struggle to convince him to move to the north London club.
