Spurs fans have taken to Twitter to slam the performance of Erik Lamela in the Carabao Cup penalty win against Chelsea.

Despite the Argentinian international equalising for Spurs late in the second half to take the game to penalties (per BBC), it still seems as if a lot of fans were less than impressed with his display, with a lot of Lilywhites supporters critical of his showing on Twitter.

The 28-year-old was making just his second start of the season against the Blues but marked it with his second goal of the season, having scored the opening goal in last week’s 3-1 win against KF Shkendija in the Europa League.

How well can you remember the last week of Spurs action? 1. Who scored Spurs' first goal in the win against KF Shkendija?

Since joining Spurs from Roma in 2013, the winger has endured a number of injury problems that has perhaps prevented him from establishing himself as a key player, although he has still managed to make 227 appearances for the Lilywhites; contributing 35 goals and 47 assists (per Transfermarkt).

Considering the number of options available to Jose Mourinho on the wing, Lamela will no doubt be hopeful of an injury-free campaign in order to give him the best chance of featuring, and after his impressive showing against Chelsea, in which he earned an 8.28 rating for his display, he certainly hasn’t done his chances of playing more regularly in the Premier League any harm.
