Fans of Newcastle United have been reacting to a series of posts on Twitter, in which Keith Downie relays the Premier League’s response to Newcastle’s statement regarding their failed takeover bid.
On Wednesday evening, Newcastle United released a statement regarding the club’s failed takeover bid by PCP Capital Partners, the Reuben Brothers and the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF), which stated the club’s belief that Premier League chief executive Richard Masters had not ‘acted appropriately’ regarding the takeover, amongst many other points.
In response, the Premier League replied by stating that ‘the club’s assertion that the Premier League has rejected the takeover is incorrect’ as well as claiming that the league had ‘repeatedly offered independent arbitration’ regarding the takeover deal in an attempt to move the bid forwards.
After Keith Downie relayed the Premier League’s response to Newcastle’s statement in a series of tweets, fans of the club flocked to have their say on the matter, with many accusing the league of corruption.
They’re asking again for what they had at the beginning of the process, it shouldn’t have taken them as many weeks until the buyers back down to request the same details to be provided again?
To say there’s nothing untoward with the Premier League here is an understatement— Jase ???? ?? (@jasonhebron) September 10, 2020
Arbitration can’t be used until the deal is denied can it? According to Staveley, The @premierleague (Masters) said they would refuse to approve or deny the takeover effectively leaving it in limbo. Surely that can’t be legal?

As some of these Newcastle fans have pointed out, it would indeed appear unlikely that an independent body could arbitrate the Premier League’s decision on the takeover, if no decision had actually been made by the Premier League.
However, this independent arbitration could be to simply decide whether or not the Premier League’s request for more information from the buying party was actually required, although, this is not clear.
Do you believe the Premier League have acted wrongly in the takeover saga?
Yes
No
Many more Newcastle fans continued to make their feelings known about the Premier League.
But why offer arbitration unless the @premierleague weren’t going to make a decision and wanted it made by someone else. In that case what’s the point of the O&D Test?

You can’t offer arbitration without making a decision ?????

However, one fan suggests that he believes the statement as he presumes Mike Ashley has lied following the statement from the club and ownership from earlier this week, which accused the Premier League of not acting appropriately throughout this situation.
So it seems Mike Ashley lied. What a strange thing to do.

All in all, it would appear that these Newcastle fans are far from happy with the Premier League’s response to the club’s statement, and, although the takeover deal is no longer ongoing, it would seem that this saga has a little while longer to run just yet.
