Chris Waugh has been on the latest edition of The Athletic’s Pod On The Tyne talking about all things relating to Newcastle United.

A nice easy one to start off with. Who scored Newcastle's opening goal of the 2020/21 PL season?

One of the topics that he spent some time on was potential outgoings from the Toon’s squad, and it looks like one player who wants out is DeAndre Yedlin.

It seems as if Yedlin is now third-choice for the right-back role and would like to leave Tyneside, though while Besiktas are reportedly looking to pick him up on a free, the Toon are hoping to receive a fee for the 27-year-old.

Waugh said: “Newcastle have three right-backs, and since they’ve shifted to four at the back, [Emil] Krafth has come into play a bit more; he’s seen as the second-choice behind Javier Manquillo, who’s obviously signed his new long-term deal.

“DeAndre Yedlin, I think, is quite keen to go now, he doesn’t really want to be third-choice – he’s not been difficult, he’s not pushing for an exit or anything like that, but at the same time, he realises he is not in Steve Bruce’s plans.

“Besiktas in Turkey are interested in him, part of the issue there is that they would like him on a free transfer; Newcastle would prefer to get a bit of money for him.”

Do you think it is time for Yedlin to go?

Yes, he has had his time

TIF Thoughts…

Newcastle signed Yedlin in the summer of 2016 from Tottenham Hotspur, and he has gone on to make over 100 appearances for the Toon, but he has not played either of their two opening Premier League games, failing to make the matchday squad on both occasions.

Instead, Javier Manquillo started both, with Emil Krafth on the bench, so it does indeed look like Yedlin is well down the pecking order, and a move might allow him to start more games.

The former Spurs man is valued at £5.85m by Transfermarkt and his contract runs out next summer, so you can see why Newcastle may want a little bit of money for him.

It will be interesting to see if a compromise with Besiktas can be reached that would allow Yedlin to continue his career in Turkey.
