A nice easy one to start off with. Who scored Newcastle's opening goal of the 2020/21 PL season?

He has been talking about the failed takeover of Newcastle United and the latest from St James’ Park regarding that deal.

Castles provided his view on the statement released by NUFC that stated that the Premier League had officially rejected the proposed takeover by PCP Capital Partners, the Reuben brothers and PIF, and they were unhappy with how it had been handled and would be exploring all options.

The Premier League refuted this claim and stated that the takeover had not been officially rejected, and it led to Castles to provide his view on this statement.

It seems as if one of the things that PCP were annoyed about was that the Premier League did not make a decision, and so Newcastle’s statement, in Castles’ view, is wrong because the Premier League have still not said yes or no.

He said: “[A] very interesting statement from Newcastle, particularly because it was factually inaccurate.

“[The bid] wasn’t actually rejected, as we said on the podcast, [the Premier League] refused to give a decision.

“That was one of the complaints from PCP – that the Premier League were refusing to take a decision and they were not giving them a rejection which they would have been allowed to appeal against and take to a legal level and try and force through the takeover.”

Do you think Newcastle are wrong?

Yes, the deal wasn't formally rejected

No, the PL stopped the deal

TIF Thoughts…

Since that statement from the Toon was released, Mike Ashley has appointed two lawyers as he looks to fight a legal battle that will see the proposed takeover go through.

Ashley is not looking for compensation; he just wants a resolution to allow this proposed takeover to go through.

However, Castles seems to believe that the Premier League have not formally rejected the deal, and it has been suggested that because of that, Ashley does not have a strong case.

Despite this, though, it seems as if Ashley is determined to force this sale through, so this could be one to keep an eye on as the days and weeks pass.
