Speaking recently on the Ask Ornstein YouTube show, David Ornstein provided an update on Manchester United’s pursuit of Borussia Dortmund winger, Jadon Sancho.

Since making the move to Dortmund from Manchester City in what was a £7.05 million deal back in 2017, Sancho has enjoyed a rather remarkable rise, going on to feature 101 times for the club, scoring 35 goals and providing 45 assists, and seeing his market value rocket from £4.5 million at the time of his move to Germany, to £105.3 million today.

How well do you remember the action from the opening weekend of the Premier League? - 1. Who scored the first goal of the season?

Last season, the 20-year-old England international featured 32 times in the Bundesliga, scoring 17 goals and providing 16 assists, averaging a highly impressive WhoScored match rating of 7.64 – ranking him as the club’s best performer in the league.

Sancho also impressed in European competition, scoring two goals and providing two assists over his eight appearances in the Champions League, averaging a WhoScored match rating of 7.28.

As a result of these fine performances, interest has been high in the winger over the summer transfer window, with Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Bayern Munich all said to be keen on the 20-year-old, however, it was United who became the favourites to sign the Englishman.

However, after United missed the 10 August deadline set by Dortmund for them to sign the player, the Dortmund hierarchy stated that, as this deadline has passed, Sancho would be staying with the club for the 2020/21 season.

Ornstein discussed the latest in United’s potential deal for Sancho on a recent episode of the Ask Ornstein YouTube show, stating:

“We know that this situation is currently at an impasse. Despite United agreeing personal terms with Sancho, there’s still been no progress between the clubs.

“United, I think, will try until the last minute of the transfer window and hope that something gives, something changes – but I don’t think Dortmund will share that view.

“They’re adamant that he’s going nowhere. So, unless they drop their valuation or Manchester United meet it, then that deal won’t happen.”

Can you see United paying the asking price for Jadon Sancho in the current transfer window?

TIF Thoughts…

From Ornstein’s comments, it would very much seem as if the journalist believes that, unless United meet Dortmund’s £108 million asking price for Sancho, then the player will remain in Germany for another season.

So, unfortunately for United fans, unless Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can convince the United hierarchy to stump up the money for the winger, it looks like this deal will not be happening in the current transfer window.
