German football journalist Christian Falk has been discussing the latest news surrounding a potential move to Manchester United for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

This comes after Falk recently made an appearance on the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red Podcast where he talked about the latest transfer topics flying around at the moment.

Can you score 20/20 on this Premier League quiz? Starting off easy, who is the top scorer in the Premier League this season?

On the subject of United’s pursuit of Sancho, Falk shared this insight into the matter.

He said: “We know that there is [an] agreement between the player and the club, United, so he would like to do this step. [But Dortmund] made a new contract with him and nobody knew it before, so he has one year more.

“So Dortmund is in a very, very comfortable situation. They can wait and they don’t need to sell him. They don’t need the money, but they made a promise to the player and they said we have a €120 million line – if someone brings it in you can go there, if they don’t bring it in, we are happy if you win the German championship [with us] after many, many years of Bayern Munich [winning]. So I think it’s a problem for United, they thought that it’s easier to get him and that the club is going down with the fee.”

Sancho left Manchester City for a move to Dortmund back in the 2017 summer transfer window for a fee of £7.05 million.

Since he made his senior debut for the Bundesliga club, the Englishman has scored 34 goals and provided 43 assists across all competitions (per Transfermarkt). The 2019/20 Bundesliga season saw Sancho make 32 league appearances in which he scored 17 goals and provided 16 assists for Lucien Favre’s side.

The 20-year-old’s performances in those appearances earned him an impressive season rating of 7.64/10, making him Dortmund’s highest-rated player for the campaign (per WhoScored). Sancho is currently valued at £105.3 million (per Transfermarkt).

Do you think United will be able to work out a deal for Sancho this summer?

TIF Thoughts…

It appears from what Falk said in the podcast, Dortmund are not willing to budge on their asking price for Sancho.

If United have the means to pay this fee for Sancho and if they are that desperate to sign him this summer, then they’ll have to pay the fee.

It will be intriguing to see if United manage to pull this deal off this summer or if they walk away from it altogether.

However, looking at his impressive goals and assists record for Dortmund, it’s understandable why United would be desperate to add Sancho to their squad this summer.
