Liverpool podcaster Ben Kelly has been sharing his thoughts on the possibility of Reds midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum leaving the Merseyside club this summer.

This comes after Kelly recently made an appearance on the latest episode of The Redmen TV Podcast where he went through all the latest news topics concerning Jurgen Klopp’s side at the moment.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

After it was recently reported that Liverpool have told La Liga giants Barcelona that they want a fee of £15 million for Wijnaldum this summer, Kelly shared his views on this potential sale.

He said: “It’s not like Gini is an average midfielder, Gini is a really top-class midfielder and actually, if you’re throwing around a price like €12 million, €15 million, that’s an absolute joke.

“I mean, even with a year left on his contract, they should be going for £25 million – we shouldn’t be making a loss on Wijnaldum, no matter how many years he’s got left on his contract, or no matter how much that money is going to go towards Thiago [Alcantara], we bought him for £20 million, and he is twice the player he was when [we] bought him – we shouldn’t be making a loss on him, so for me, if you’re not going to get the right price for him, don’t sell at all.”

Liverpool signed the Dutchman on a five-year contract back in 2016 in a deal worth a reported fee of £24.75 million (as per Transfermarkt) from fellow Premier League side Newcastle United.

Since he arrived at Anfield, the 29-year-old has made 187 appearances for Klopp’s side in which he has scored 19 goals and provided 16 assists during his time at the club.

Is £15 million a fair price for Wijnaldum?

TIF Thoughts…

The fact that Kelly thinks Liverpool shouldn’t be selling Wijnaldum anywhere near the reported fee of £15 million just goes to show how highly regarded the midfielder is at the Merseyside club.

It will be interesting now to see what figure Barcelona offer Liverpool for Wijnaldum if they do want to buy him this summer and if Liverpool would accept the offer or not.
