Liverpool journalist Paul Gorst has been sharing his thoughts on the possibility of Reds midfielder Marko Grujic leaving the Merseyside club this summer.

This comes after Gorst recently made an appearance on the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red Podcast where he discussed the latest news surrounding Jurgen Klopp’s side.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

On the subject of Grujic, who has been linked with a move away from Anfield this summer, Gorst had this to say on the matter.

He said: “Considering he was Jurgen Klopp’s first-ever signing, you’d have to say that the writing is very much on the wall for him as far as breaking into that first team goes, particularly in the position he plays, where Liverpool have got about nine different players who can play across that middle three.

“If Liverpool can get a decent fee for him, he’s someone who I think will be moved on and hopefully, that can be reinvested into what at the moment, is a pretty much non-existent transfer budget by all accounts.”

The Serbian signed to Liverpool back in the 2016 January transfer window from Red Star Belgrade in a deal worth a reported fee of £6.3 million.

Since then, the 24-year-old has spent time out on loan at clubs such as Cardiff City and Hertha Berlin in Germany, as well as a temporary return to his previous club, Red Star.

Grujic has made a total of just 14 senior appearances for the Reds, where he has only managed to grab one assist.

TIF Thoughts…

Given how Grujic hasn’t made that many senior appearances for Liverpool since he arrived at the club and that Liverpool currently have a number of players that can play in the central-midfield role, it may not come as a surprise that Gorst thinks Grujic could be heading for the exit this summer.

It will be intriguing to see which clubs, if any, decide they want to sign the midfielder this summer and then hopefully, Grujic will be able to get sufficient playing time there.
