Liverpool journalist James Pearce has been sharing his thoughts on how the Merseyside club have fared during the current summer transfer window.

This comes after Pearce recently made an appearance on The Athletic’s Red Agenda Podcast, where he spoke about a number of topics related to the Reds.

On the subject of their current transfer window, Pearce shared his views on how Jurgen Klopp’s side have gone about their business and what they may need to do throughout the remainder of the window.

He said: “I think they’ve addressed one key issue with [Kostas] Tsimikas coming in to finally give them some real decent cover for Andy Robertson at left-back but they haven’t replaced Dejan Lovren, and that worries me a little bit at the moment – not having a fourth senior specialist centre-half,  and I also think they do really need another elite option in that frontline especially, ideally a left-sided player who could ease the burden on Sadio Mane a bit.”

As Pearce mentioned in the podcast, the only incoming transfer Liverpool have made so far in this current window has seen them sign Greek left-back Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos for a fee of £11.7 million.

Before bringing in Tsimikas, Liverpool sold centre-half Dejan Lovren to Zenit St. Petersburg for a fee of £10.8 million, bringing an end to the Croatian’s six-year stint at Anfield.

TIF Thoughts…

With Liverpool having sold Lovren earlier in the window, you’d think that the club would be looking to bring in another centre-half to fill the hole left by his departure, unless they decide that they will promote one of their younger defenders into the senior squad to replace Lovren instead.

It’s interesting to hear that Pearce thinks Liverpool also need to sign a more attack-minded player this summer when they already have the likes of Takumi Minamino, Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi in their squad that can play in more attacking positions.

With the deadline for the current transfer window just under a month away, it will be interesting to see if Liverpool manage to sign any new players in either of the positions Pearce spoke about in the podcast.
