LFC Daytrippers contributor Grizz Khan has been discussing Liverpool’s interest in the Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara during a recent edition of the podcast.

Despite being heavily linked with a move to Anfield, a deal is yet to be done that would see the Spaniard swap Bavaria for Merseyside. Thiago, formerly of Barcelona, joined the German and current European champions back in 2013 in a transfer reportedly worth £22.5m (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk).

According to some recent reports, Manchester United have also shown an interest in the 29-year-old, however, according to Khan there is one major factor he is certain will convince the player Liverpool are the club for him. Here is what he had to say:

“The one major factor in all of this is Jurgen Klopp. The pull of the manager is of [such] importance, especially in this case. Thiago isn’t leaving Bayern Munich to – with all due respect to [Thomas] Tuchel and Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] – he’s not going to leave Bayern to go and play for them. The main reason he is going to leave Bayern Munich is to play for Jurgen Klopp, and that’s why Liverpool are absolutely comfortable with this situation.”

TIF Thoughts…

Khan clearly thinks Thiago would be keen to work with Klopp and given the 53-year-old has won titles in England, Germany and as recently as 2019 led his side to UEFA Champions League glory, we can understand why.

Thiago’s average performance rating in the Bundesliga last season was an impressive 7.47/10 (via WhoScored.com), making him Bayern Munich’s fourth-most consistent player last season and so whilst the podcaster’s convinced the player wishes to play under Klopp, it can certainly be argued the Reds will be improving their team.
