LFC Daytrippers contributor Grizz Khan has been discussing Marko Grujic’s future on a recent episode of the podcast.

The Serbian midfielder has spent the last two seasons on loan in the Bundesliga with Hertha Berlin for whom he has made 54 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing his teammates with three assists (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk).

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

The 24-year-old Serbia international is now back on Merseyside, but it remains to be seen whether he will be given the opportunity to fight for a place in Jurgen Klopp’s side or if he will be moved on – be it permanently or on another loan.

When discussing what the future may hold for the player, here is what Khan had to say:

“Grujic is a weird one, there could be space for him in the squad, you’d think, especially in a cramped season. But nothing shows me that [Jurgen] Klopp rates him or values him – since [Zeljko] Buvac has gone, he hasn’t had a look in because he was Buvac’s recommendation. I don’t know if his heart is still at Liverpool; you saw his performances, he wasn’t someone who really believes that his future lies with Liverpool. And then again, he’s got more of a name in Germany.”

TIF Thoughts…

Grujic’s average performance rating in the German top flight last season was a solid 6.94/10 (as per WhoScored.com), which in our view, suggests he is capable of performing to a good standard regularly over the course of the season.

However, whether he is good enough to displace one of the Reds’ first-team players and hold down a regular place in the side is still up for debate. The club has been linked with a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago, which arguably could decrease Grujic’s chances of playing even further if he were to arrive.
