German football journalist Christian Falk has provided an update on the possibility of Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara making a move to Liverpool this summer.

This comes after Falk recently made an appearance on the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red Podcast where he spoke about a range of transfer-related topics concerning the Merseyside club at the moment.

On the subject of Thiago, who has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield this summer, Falk shared this update on the matter.

He said: “There are still talks [between Liverpool and Bayern] but that’s not so concrete at the moment with the negotiations, indeed the Bayern Munich bosses, who are on holiday at the moment, are still waiting for a concrete offer.

“They know there should be one. They expected it already a few days ago. I can imagine that Liverpool is still waiting because, you know best, something with [Georginio] Wijnaldum and Barcelona. Perhaps they need the money to make a bid for Thiago.

“Thiago himself [already] said goodbye after the [treble] – [at] the big party, he said goodbye to the employers of Bayern Munich at the Monday party which took place in Munich, so it’ll be very hard for him to go to training at [Säbener Strasse] again next week so we are still waiting [for] the offer. We know that Jurgen Klopp is very, very keen on him, but we also know as well that he was very, very keen on Timo Werner and didn’t get him because of money, so we all have to wait.”

The midfielder arrived at Bayern back in 2013 from Barcelona, and since then, the Spaniard has made a total of 235 appearances for the German club, in which he has scored 31 goals and provided 37 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

His latest appearance for Bayern came during their 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final last month. Thiago’s performance in the final earned him a match rating of 7.48/10, the highest rating of any player on the night (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts…

It appears that while there has been no concrete offer from Liverpool to Bayern for Thiago as of yet, it seems that there could be a bid made at some point during the remainder of the current transfer window.

Either way, it’s clear now by what Falk revealed, that Thiago has already made his mind up and that he will be leaving the German club this summer.
