Many Newcastle United supporters have flocked to Twitter in order to respond to a post from Lee Ryder of The Chronicle.
The publication’s chief Newcastle writer shared an update on the future of the club’s reported transfer target Callum Wilson. He posted: ‘Aston Villa have firmed up their interest in Callum Wilson with a £15m proposal plus add-ons for the Bournemouth striker. The player’s agent spoke about a swap deal for Matt Ritchie plus cash earlier this week.’
Based on the above, it appears the Magpies face competition in the race for Wilson’s signature and although there is mention of a swap deal involving Matt Ritchie, which would see him return to the south coast, there is no indication provided as to how much money the Cherries would command in addition to getting the left-sided player.
Here is how a sample of the St. James’ Park faithful have responded to the journalist’s update:
Our club is so embarrassing

What are we actually doing? Sitting on our hands as usual.

Straight to villa he goes then

Are you concerned Callum Wilson will end up at Aston Villa?
Yes
No
It’s clear from the above responses that many of these fans are frustrated by the way their club seems to do business in the transfer market and fear that they could miss out on the £18m-rated forward.
And that’s him not coming to @NUFC

So he’s off to Villa then.

Quibbling about £15 million, while Chelsea are spending millions!

NUFC doomed

Despite Bournemouth’s relegation last season, Wilson scored eight goals and provided three assists in 35 Premier League appearances (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk), meaning he directly contributed to more goals than any Newcastle United player in the 2019/20 campaign. As a result, you can understand why these fans seem frustrated that may be usurped in the race for his signature by a domestic rival.
