Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has recently been discussing Leeds United’s new kit deal with sportswear brand Adidas.
In July, it was announced by the Whites that Adidas had become the official kit partner of the club (per Leeds United).
The deal saw the German brand take over from Italian sportswear manufacturer Kappa, who had been the club’s kit provider for a five-year period.
As stated by the Whites in their announcement of the deal with Adidas, it is a ‘long-term partnership’ that is a ‘record-breaking deal’.
So, in the latest episode of The Price of Football podcast, Maguire discussed the deal which was announced back in July.
He said: “When it comes to the Leeds kit and the deal with Adidas – I mean, Leeds have had practically every kit manufacturer – they’ve had Nike and Macron and Kappa, now they’re back with Adidas.
“They will get a fixed fee from Adidas, we don’t how much, but they also get a commission on each sale.
“I think the advantage to Leeds is that – we know that Leeds is a big-city club, but it also has a fairly decent international following – Adidas have lots of retail outlets dotted around the world.
“That will help to increase the volume of sales on which, of course, the club’s getting its [commission]. It’s normally about a 7% commission on shirts.”
TIF Thoughts…
As can be seen in what the finance expert had to say, he believes there are more benefits to the deal with Adidas than what would be immediately considered.
Are you happy with Adidas being the club's kit manufacturer?
Yes, I really like them
No, I want another brand
So, hopefully, for the Whites, the ‘long-term partnership‘ with the German sportswear manufacturer will be an incredibly fruitful one.
