Phil Hay has been speaking on the latest edition of The Phil Hay Show from The Athletic about all things relating to Leeds United.

Nice easy one to start with, who scored Leeds' first goal of the PL season?

One of the topics that Hay spent some time on was the future of Barry Douglas, as he has been linked with a move to Celtic.

It seems as if Hay does not see a bright future at Leeds for the 31-year-old as Marcelo Bielsa has got Stuart Dallas and Ezgjan Alioski to compete at left-back and Douglas’ contract is also running out.

He said: “I know Douglas has been linked with Celtic [but] there hasn’t been much said about his future around here.

“I haven’t heard him discussed as somebody who might go.

“But it does very much feel like he’s on the fringes – given how reliable [Stuart] Dallas is and given that you then have [Ezgjan] Alioski below [him].

“[Marcelo] Bielsa’s view beyond the two players that he likes for any position is that any further padding or any further support for that area should come from the [Under] 23s.

“It’s hard to see where this leaves Douglas, and his contract is starting to run down now. It doesn’t feel, still, as if this move is going to work for him as he would have wanted.”

Do you think Douglas should leave?

Yes, he won't get enough game time

No, we should keep him in the squad

TIF Thoughts…

Douglas joined Leeds in the summer of 2018.

He has only played 44 games for the Whites since then, and at the start of this season, he was left out of the squad for the Premier League opener against Liverpool but then started in the Carabao Cup game against Hull City.

Dallas played at left-back against the Reds, and Douglas was at left-back against the Tigers, but you could argue that the fact he was left out of the squad to play Liverpool doesn’t look good for Douglas.

Considering he has less than one year left on his contract, could Leeds be tempted to cash in on the 31-year-old with the Bhoys interested in signing him?

It will be intriguing to see if Douglas is still at Elland Road by the end of the transfer window or not.
