Speaking recently on the Ask Ornstein YouTube show, David Ornstein provided an update on the rumours of the summer transfer window, and in particular, the links between Leeds United and Liverpool winger Harry Wilson.

Spending last term away from Liverpool on a season-long loan with Bournemouth, the 23-year-old featured 31 times for the Cherries, scoring seven goals and averaging a slightly disappointing WhoScored match rating of 6.52 – ranking him as the club’s 13th-best performer in the league.

Nice easy one to start with, who scored Leeds' first goal of the PL season?

Earlier this year, The Mirror reported that Jurgen Klopp would be putting Wilson up for sale this summer, as the German aimed to raise money in order to fund moves for his own targets, with Liverpool said to be looking for £20 million for the Welshman.

Leeds were then reported to be interested in the £15.75 million-rated man, along with their Premier League rivals Newcastle United and Southampton.

However, Ornstein recently stated that any potential move for Wilson from Leeds now looks unlikely to happen, as Marcelo Bielsa decided he “wasn’t the right player for him”.

He said: “We know that Leeds United had started working on a deal for him much earlier in the summer, but that didn’t develop, because Marcelo Bielsa decided that Wilson wasn’t the right player for him, and they actually moved their target onto the Udinese and Argentina attacking midfielder, Rodrigo de Paul.”

TIF Thoughts…

From Ornstein’s comments, it is clear that the journalist believes that, despite the club working on a deal for the winger earlier in the summer, Bielsa eventually decided that Wilson was not the sort of player he wanted to add to his squad, with the Argentine manager then turning his attention to Udinese’s De Paul.

However, with that move now also appearing to be off due to the high price-tag the Serie A side put on the player, as Ornstein states, one would assume that Leeds are still on the hunt for another attacking addition to their squad.

With a decent amount of time remaining before the transfer window shuts, there is still plenty of time for the club to act in the market, however, it now looks unlikely, according to Ornstein, that either of Wilson or De Paul will be making a move to Elland road this year.
