Talking the Blues podcaster Andy Costigan has recently slated former Everton manager and current Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman.

The Dutchman spent just under 16 months at the helm of the Goodison Park outfit between 2016 and 2017.

During his time with the Toffees, Koeman delivered a 1.48 points-per-game total over 58 matches – with 24 wins, 14 draws and 20 losses.

Over his stint in Merseyside, the Dutch manager made 16 permanent signings and spent almost £220m on incoming players.

One of the notable arrivals was Yannick Bolasie from Crystal Palace, who set the club back £26.01m and still remains with the Toffees despite him making just 32 Everton appearances.

In the latest episode of the Talking the Blues podcast, Costigan discussed Koeman’s time at Goodison Park and slated him for it.

To kick off this quiz on Everton's 2019/20 season, which side did the Toffees' first win of the term come against?

He said: “[His reckless spending in the transfer market is] why just about every Evertonian wishes nothing but bad luck on Mr Koeman.

“He’s the one that’s damaged the club more than anybody else. I mean, from an operational level, obviously, Mr [Farhad] Moshiri should have taken the chequebook back off him, but he didn’t.

“Koeman, evidently, just wafted it around like, ‘Hey, look at me, I’m loaded. I’ll buy you, I’ll buy you, I’ll buy you.’

“No structure, no plan, nothing. Just, ‘here’s a big, fat chequebook.'”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what the podcaster had to say, he clearly still holds Koeman accountable for the amount of money that the Dutch manager spent at Goodison Park.

Do you agree that Ronald Koeman has damaged Everton more than anybody in recent years?

Yes, he was a disaster

Yes, he was a disaster

No, he wasn't that bad

No, he wasn't that bad

Certainly, the fact that Koeman spent around £37m more in 16 months at Everton than David Moyes did over 11 years at Goodison Park is very telling.

Even in Marco Silva’s 18 months with the Toffees, the Portuguese manager still spent around £22m less than Koeman did.

So, it is clear to see why Costigan is still frustrated with the spending that the Dutchman was allowed to do while on Merseyside.
