According to recent reports, Crystal Palace are interested in the signing of Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard as a potential Christian Benteke replacement.

The report by The Times states that Palace are prepared to sell Benteke this summer, whom the club have put a £10 million price tag on, and, if they do, then they are lining up the possibility of signing the Celtic forward, who has also been linked with a £22.5 million move to Arsenal.

Crystal Palace fan? We bet you can't get 100% on this Palace 19/20 season quiz. We'll start off with an easy one... Which side did Palace face on the opening day of the 19/20 Premier League season?

Since making a £9.27 million move to Celtic from Paris Saint-Germain back in 2018, the Frenchman has enjoyed quite a remarkable rise, featuring in 131 games for the Scottish side, scoring 65 goals and providing 32 assists, seeing his value increase from £1.35 million at the time of joining the Hoops, to £13.5 million today.

Last season, the 22-year-old highly impressed for Neil Lennon’s side, scoring 27 goals and providing 19 assists across his 45 appearances in all competitions, while this season, Edouard has already found the back of the net four times in four Scottish Premiership matches, averaging a WhoScored match rating of 7.99.

TIF Thoughts…

Considering the fact that Benteke scored just two Premier League goals over 24 appearances last season, in addition to the fact that Palace as a team only managed 31 league goals, it is hardly surprising to read that Roy Hodgson is looking to add some firepower to his side in the summer transfer window.

And, following the £16.02 million signing of Eberechi Eze from Queens Park Rangers, and the loan signing of Michy Batshuayi from Chelsea, it is our opinion that Edouard would be a further magnificent addition to the Palace attacking line up.

However, with reported competition from Arsenal, we will have to wait and see whether or not Palace can indeed lure the 22-year-old south of the river.
