Aston Villa podcaster Dan Morgan has been discussing a potential summer transfer move for FC Porto attacker Moussa Marega.

This comes after Morgan recently hosted an episode of The Villa Filler Podcast from Villa-themed YouTube channel Heart of The Holte in which he spoke about a range of topics concerning the club at the moment.

In this 2019/20 season quiz, do you remember who scored Villa's first PL goal of the season?

On the topic of Marega, who has been linked with a move to Villa Park in the past, Morgan shared his thoughts on the likelihood of the forward signing to Villa this summer.

He said: “I think because we’ve just been continuously linked with him, it’s one of them ones where it’s probably a non-starter; it’s just something that the papers have made up. If you sign a Moussa Marega that is a true statement of intent to what Aston Villa want to achieve within the immediate future, a fantastic striker would most definitely be welcome down at Villa Park.”

Speaking to A Bola (via Birmingham Mail), Marega’s agent Aziz Ben Aissa recently revealed that playing in the Premier League is now Marega’s “objective” due to his age.

Marega first signed to the Portuguese club back in the 2016 January transfer window for a fee of £3.42 million. Since then, the 29-year-old has made a total of 145 appearances for Porto, in which he has scored 60 goals and provided 28 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

The 2019/20 season saw Marega, who is currently valued at £18 million, make a total of 45 appearances for Porto across all competitions, in which he scored 15 goals and provided nine assists.

Marega’s performances in the 29 Liga NOS appearances he made last season earned him an impressive season rating of 7.2/10 (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts…

Despite his impressive goalscoring record for Porto, it appears that Morgan doesn’t believe that Marega will be making the move to Villa this summer.

Given speculation stretches back to before Villa’s promotion to the Premier League in May 2019, perhaps Morgan is right to be sceptical of reports that continue to link the striker with a Villa Park move.
