Aston Villa podcaster Chris Budd has been discussing the possibility of Dean Smith’s side making a transfer move for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard.

This comes after Budd recently made an appearance on Villa-themed podcast My Old Man Said, where he discussed a number of topics concerning the club at the moment.

In this 2019/20 season quiz, do you remember who scored Villa's first PL goal of the season?

On the subject of Edouard, who has been linked with a move to Villa Park in the past, Budd shared his thoughts on the possibility of the striker leaving Celtic for Villa this summer.

He said: “It’s another one of these ones where he looks a good player but I don’t necessarily think he’s a banker. He’s banging in goals for fun in Scotland, but then so did Scott Sinclair.

“I mean, I actually quite like the look of him but again, I think for the price, isn’t it about £40 million, reportedly? I think that seems very high for a player in the Scottish Premier League, to be honest. I think Celtic either know that he’s a real potential superstar in the ilk of like a [Virgil] Van Dijk when he was there, or they’re just trying to fulfil a financial black hole, as we mentioned earlier, from them not being in the Champions League.”

The 22-year-old, who is currently valued at £13.5 million, signed to the Scottish club on a loan deal from Paris Saint-Germain back in August 2017.

In July 2018, Edouard signed to Celtic on a permanent basis for a fee of £9.27 million.

Overall, the Frenchman has made 130 appearances for Celtic in which he has managed to score 64 goals and provide 32 assists along the way.

TIF Thoughts…

It appears that Budd has some doubts over a possible move for Edouard this summer. However, with such an impressive goalscoring record during his time at Celtic, it would be safe to assume that Edouard would provide Villa with an extra attacking threat going forward.

With Villa only managing to score 41 goals in 38 Premier League appearances last season, if the club were to bring in Edouard, they would surely have high hopes that he can have the same goalscoring impact at Villa Park as he did at Celtic.
