This comes after Morgan recently made an appearance on the latest episode of The Villa Filler Podcast from a Villa-themed YouTube channel called Heart of The Holte.

In this 2019/20 season quiz, do you remember who scored Villa's first PL goal of the season?

During the podcast, he spoke about the latest transfer-related news surrounding the Birmingham club at the moment.

After it was recently reported that Villa have agreed a fee of €8 million (£7.1 million) for Romero that would see him swap Old Trafford for Villa Park, Morgan had this to say on the matter.

He said: “It’s an interesting one really, because if you ask United fans, they’d probably say he is actually better than David de Gea, but I don’t know whether that’s more of a comparison on how poor David de Gea’s been, but this is a man, who, in 64 games has kept 36 clean sheets, albeit with a much better defence and against some inferior opposition in Europa League games.

“Nevertheless, playing in a European competition, you can’t take that away from them. Romero seems like a really smart bit of business and it looks like another bit, you know, like [Pepe] Reina and [Tom] Heaton, is a player that’s going to add this competition and stability in a position that I don’t necessarily think needs it, but I’m certainly not going to turn my nose up at this kind of a deal, especially for £8 million.”

The 33-year-old shot-stopper signed to the Manchester club back in the 2015 summer transfer window on a free transfer from Italian side Sampdoria.

Since then, the Argentine has made a total of 61 appearances for United in which he has conceded 27 goals and managed to keep 39 clean sheets along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

With Villa currently having Tom Heaton, Orjan Nyland, Jed Steer and Lovre Kalinic in their squad at the moment, it would seem likely that Villa would look to let one or maybe two of those goalkeepers leave the club before they bring Romero in, if they manage to complete a deal for the ‘keeper, who is currently valued at £2.52 million according to Transfermarkt.
