Speaking recently on the Ask Ornstein YouTube show, David Ornstein provided an update on some of the rumours of the summer transfer market, and, in particular, Arsenal’s pursuit of both Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar.

Atletico Madrid midfielder Partey and Lyon’s Aouar have both been heavily linked with a move to north London over the course of the summer, with The Mirror reporting that Partey is ‘keen to move to the Emirates’ and that Arsenal are equally interested in bringing the midfielder to the Premier League, despite the Spanish side demanding ‘in excess of £50 million’ for the 27-year-old.

In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

The same report states that club also want to make Aouar an Arsenal player, although Lyon’s £40 million asking price means that it is likely the Gunners will have to sell in order to raise funds for a move for the 22-year-old.

Ornstein recently provided an update on the club’s interest in the two players, with the journalist saying that he is unaware of any further developments in either potential deal, although he did rule out Aouar making a move to Serie A, as had been reported.

He said: “On Aouar and Partey, as we’ve reported before, there’s [a] great deal of interest there. I don’t know of any developments. What I do know is that reports suggesting that Aouar is going to sign for Juventus are not accurate.

“The last I knew, the feeling at Juventus was there was no chance in that happening, so maybe Arsenal can be hopeful.

“We know about that admiration for Partey as well, but I think Arsenal are going to need to get some bodies out first, and then we’ll see if either of them/both of them develop in the final weeks of the window.”

Do you think Arsenal will get both of these deals done in the current transfer window?

TIF Thoughts…

From Ornstein’s comments, while he does not provide a concrete update on the progression of the potential deals for either player, he does rule out Aouar’s reported move to Juventus, which, for an Arsenal fan, must be good to hear.

For now, as Ornstein mentions, we will have to keep an eye on both of these potential deals as the transfer window goes on, however, with the Premier League season now up and running, we would imagine that Arsenal will want to get their business done sooner rather than later, in order to allow any potential new signings to participate in as much of their league campaign as possible.
