Dan Potts of The Same Old Arsenal podcast has been discussing Lyon’s Houssem Aouar during a recent episode.
The 22-year-old midfielder has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium during this transfer window and is said to be Mikel Arteta’s primary target. According to Transfermarkt, the central player is currently valued at £44.55m.
Having made 25 appearances in the French top-flight last season, Aouar was awarded an impressive average performance rating of 7.02/10 – proving that he is capable of performing at a high standard over a sustained period of time.
Although there has been nothing from either club to suggest a deal has been done or is close to being done, Potts claims an agreement between the north London giants and the Ligue 1 club has been reached. Here is what he had to say:
“I believe, personally, that we have, I’ve got good grounds for this source, that we have agreed to get Houssem Aouar for £42m with add-ons on top of that. If that is true, that would mean that players are agreeing to be leaving the club.”
Do you think Arsenal are close to signing Houssem Aouar?
Yes
No
TIF Thoughts…
With reports linking Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi with moves away from the club, it could be argued that Arsenal need to add another central midfielder. Aouar is one of two players the FA Cup holders have been credited with a very strong interest in, the other being Thomas Partey.
It’s clear from the podcaster’s comments he is confident a deal that would see the Frenchman arrive in London has been agreed, however, we would advise caution given there is yet to be any communication to that effect from any of the involved parties.
