Charles Watts, the Arsenal correspondent for Goal, has been discussing the club’s priority transfer targets and which of them are the Gunners most likely to land between now and the end of the transfer window during a recent YouTube video.

The Gunners are said to be keen on bringing in Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey and Lyon’s Houssem Aouar although Watts appears to be of the view that one of the two aforementioned players coming in would be a more realistic outcome. Here is what he had to say:

“I’ve said all along, I still don’t think they’re going to get the two of them.

“I still think you’re looking more likely one of them could come in, I still think Thomas Partey is the more likely one, just because at this stage, Arsenal know what they have to do to get Thomas Partey, there is no mucking around, they know what they have to do.

“It’s just about being able to get things together in the first place so they can go and pay that £44m release clause.”

In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

TIF Thoughts…

Although Arsenal are yet to trigger Thomas Partey’s release clause, judging by the journalist’s comments, perhaps we shouldn’t rule them out of doing so between now and the end of the transfer window.

Would you prefer Thomas Partey over Houssem Aouar?

According to WhoScored, Partey’s strengths are in his ability to intercept balls, tackle, dribble and win aerial duels – all qualities you could argue Mikel Arteta’s midfield are in need of.

The transfer window is due to close on October 5, meaning time is running out if the Gunners wish to do a deal that would see the Ghanaian arrive in North London.
