Charles Watts, the Arsenal correspondent for Goal, has been discussing some of the latest transfer rumours regarding the north London club during a recent video on his YouTube channel.

Mikel Arteta’s side are said to be pursuing deals for Lyon’s Houssem Aouar and Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey but in the event that they are unable to land the Ghanaian in particular, Watts named a couple of players he believes the club see as potential alternatives.

In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

One of the players mentioned was Roma’s Amadou Diawara. Here is what the journalist had to say on the club’s alleged interest in the 23-year-old.

“[Amadou] Diawara at Roma is a player they’ve looked at as well. I know there has been lots of talk in Italy about a potential swap deal involving Torreira and Diawara. As far as I’m aware, that has never actually been discussed, but Diawara’s representatives are certainly aware that Arsenal have been keeping tabs on him but he, again, is very much on the list of potential backup options [for Partey].”

TIF Thoughts…

Diawara is a Guinea international and last season, he made 22 appearances in the Italian top-flight, earning an average performance rating of 6.71/10 according to WhoScored.com.

His strengths are said to be his ability to make interceptions and his passing ability (as per WhoScored). The journalist reiterated the point that Partey remains a priority target but given Arsenal are yet to trigger the player’s minimum fee release clause of €50m (£46m), they may turn their attention elsewhere, in which case Diawara appears to be an option.
