In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

One of the sides that he spent a little bit of time on was Arsenal and he revealed that the Gunners are talking to Barcelona about Philippe Coutinho.

Coutinho was linked with a move to the Emirates earlier in the summer but nothing has come of the rumour. Now, it looks like talks are happening as the Gunners try to bring the former Liverpool man to North London.

It seems as if the Gunners are trying to thrash out a deal for the 28-year-old that would see them pay all of Coutinho’s wages and also an €8m (£7.26m) loan fee so that they can have the Brazilian for the season.

He said: “It is our understanding that Arsenal have been in quite detailed talks with [Barcelona] and with Philippe Coutinho’s agent regarding a season-long loan.

“It’s our understanding that that would include an €8m loan fee plus 100% of the player’s wages. Barcelona are not prepared to subsidise.

“So, the entire investment would be worth around €20m over one season.”

Do you think Arsenal want to sign Coutinho?

TIF Thoughts…

Arsenal’s top targets for the remainder of the window are supposedly Houssem Aoaur and Thomas Partey, so this information on Coutinho seems to contrast with that.

Still, if McGarry is to be believed, talks for Coutinho are ongoing.

Barcelona no longer want the former Liverpool ace, and it seems as if it is the Gunners who are prepared to sign him.

However, their interest in Aouar and Partey is seemingly real, so, it will be interesting to see what Arsenal manage to do in the remainder of the transfer window and if any of these three end up at the Emirates or not.
