Richard Gordon, Derek Ferguson, Pat Bonner, Brian Rice and Billy Dodds appeared on the latest edition of the BBC’s Sportsound Scottish Football podcast to react to Wednesday’s Premiership games, with the panel spending some time talking about Rangers’ 3-0 win over St. Johnstone.

Gers sit at the top of the Premiership table after goals from Borna Barisic, Ryan Kent and Joe Aribo gave the Glasgow-based club a convincing midweek win at Ibrox.

Alfredo Morelos started Wednesday’s game and going into this fixture, the £13.5m-rated attacker had made a total of four goal contributions in Rangers’ first two league games of the 2020/21 campaign. However, the Colombian didn’t score or provide an assist for any of Rangers’ three goals versus St. Johnstone and was withdrawn from the pitch in the 61st minute of the game.

Gordon and Ferguson discussed Gers boss Steven Gerrard’s decision to substitute Morelos in the second half with his side leading by three goals and spoke about Morelos’ apparent reaction to that decision.

Ferguson brought up the topic of Morelos’ reaction to being substituted, saying: “One of the players that did come off was Morelos, I would imagine he wouldn’t be a happy chappy.”

Gordon then responded to Ferguson to discuss Morelos’ reaction to coming off the pitch in the 61st minute, saying: “I’ve seen shots already, they’re doing the rounds, of him not looking at all happy,” to which Ferguson replied: “That’s typical striker, isn’t it?”

Is it a good thing that Morelos was allegedly unhappy about being substituted?

TIF Thoughts…

Considering that Morelos has been linked with a move away from Rangers throughout the summer transfer window, it mightn’t be a bad sign if he was frustrated about being substituted against St. Johnstone, as this might show that, despite reports claiming that he wants to leave Ibrox, he may still care about playing for Rangers.

If being substituted did frustrate Morelos, then the attacker might be even more motivated to show what he can do in Gers’ next fixture, which could be a positive for Rangers and as a result, this could potentially prove to be a wise decision from Gerrard.
