David Edgar, who hosts the Rangers-themed Heart and Hand Podcast, reacted to Rangers’ 3-0  Premiership win over St. Johnstone in a video that was recently posted on the Heart and Hand Podcast YouTube channel and spent some time talking about Kemar Roofe’s performance in Wednesday’s game.

Rangers signed Roofe from Belgian side Anderlecht for £4.5m earlier this month and the 27-year-old former Leeds United man made his competitive debut for the Glasgow-based club in their midweek win.

Roofe was introduced to the game in the 61st minute, alongside three other players as Gers boss Steven Gerrard decided to make a quadruple substitution with his side leading by three goals.

This game saw the new Rangers attacker make his first competitive appearance since 27th December, as he spent some time on the sidelines due to a calf injury earlier this year.

Edgar shared his thoughts on Roofe’s first performance for his new side in this recent post-match reaction video, saying: “Rangers, in fact, were able to make four substitutes in one go, I think the first time that’s ever happened at Ibrox, I can’t remember that, in a competitive match it must be.

“That was it, the game was over at that point, we did get to see [Cedric] Itten and Roofe. Roofe looked a bit rusty, but showed some nice touches.”

Did you expect Roofe to look rusty against St. Johnstone?

TIF Thoughts…

Judging by his comments during this recent post-match reaction video, it appears as though Edgar wasn’t blown away by Roofe’s debut, however, as he alluded to, the Gers already had a comfortable lead by the time the 27-year-old was introduced to the game.

Considering that he hadn’t made an appearance in a competitive game since December prior to Wednesday’s fixture, it mightn’t be too surprising that Edgar believes the £4.05m-rated Roofe looked ‘a bit rusty’ against St. Johnstone.

However, perhaps Gerrard took this opportunity to try and ease Roofe back into competitive football following his lengthy break, so Gers supporters may have to wait a bit longer before they can really judge their new man.
