Pundit Jim Watt has recently made a claim about Kristoffer Ajer and his situation at Parkhead right now.

Watt was a guest on the latest episode of A Celtic State of Mind podcast and the panel discussed many things involving the Glasgow club. One thing that they focused on was the club’s defensive situation. While talking about the defence, Watt began talking about Ajer and his situation at the club.

Starting with an easy one - which club did Celtic sign Moussa Dembele from?

Ajer has been linked with a move to Milan in recent weeks. The Rossoneri’s first bid for the Norwegian has already been rejected and it has been reported that Milan are ready to ‘step up’ their efforts to sign the defender this summer (as per The Sunday Post).

Watt believes that links with a move to the Serie A are affecting Ajer and his performances at Celtic these days. He made these claims while talking about Celtic’s recent 1-1 draw against Kilmarnock and their 5-1 win over Hamilton in the Premiership.

He said: “I thought on Sunday, the attitude was poor, right from the very start. They started slowly.

Do you think Ajer wants to leave Celtic?

Yes, he wants to leave

Yes, he wants to leave

No, he wants to stay

No, he wants to stay

“Even in the first game with young Ajer against Hamilton, I thought that was a case – maybe the speculation of moving to Italy is affecting Ajer. He is still a young man.”

TIF Thoughts…

Not just Milan, Ajer has been linked with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Leicester City as well. The same report also linked the defender with a move to Real Madrid too (as per Calciomercato).

Ajer has played in both of Celtic’s Premiership games so far and has picked up an overall rating of 7.16/10. He was a regular in the 2019/20 season as well. He made 49 appearances in all competitions for the Hoops and played 28 times in the Premiership as well (as per Transfermarkt).

This shows that he is an important player for the Bhoys and his overall rating for the season suggests that he hasn’t been poor in the current campaign either. So maybe, Watt’s claims aren’t exactly correct.
