Podcaster Paul Carlin has recently given his verdict about Celtic’s chase of Brighton & Hove Albion defender Shane Duffy.

Carlin was recently a guest on the latest episode of the Cynic Weekly podcast and the panel talked about many issues involving the Bhoys.

They discussed Celtic transfers as well and one topic of discussion was Duffy and Celtic’s chase to sign the Republic of Ireland defender. Carlin didn’t sound too positive about the club potentially signing Duffy this summer.

Starting with an easy one - which club did Celtic sign Moussa Dembele from?

It has been reported that Parkhead is the 28-year-old’s ‘preferred’ destination should he leave Brighton this summer, with West Ham United and West Bromwich Albion also reportedly trying to sign the defender.

Carlin believes that Duffy would have to make a decision “with his heart rather than his head” if he were to move to Celtic, as he is a Hoops fan.

Will Celtic miss out on Duffy?

Yes, we'll miss out

Yes, we'll miss out

No, we'll sign him

No, we'll sign him

He said: “What’s a wee bit worrying is that we’re not being linked with any other centre-halves that I’m aware of.

“So, if they are hedging their bets on him and his choice is between us [and] maybe West Ham or whoever else from the [Premier League] are in for him, I wouldn’t fancy our chances.

“We are just going to be hoping that he’s going with his heart rather than his head.”

TIF Thoughts…

A source close to the talks recently told the Daily Record that while Duffy is a Celtic fan and that could prove to make a ‘difference’ in his decision, it will be ‘very difficult’ for the Hoops to sign him because of the wages on offer from the Premier League clubs.

So, what Carlin says might just be true and if Duffy indeed wants to join Celtic, he would have to make a decision with his heart and not his head.
