Journalist Michael Gannon has criticised Christopher Jullien following the defender’s performance against Kilmarnock on Sunday.

Gannon was recently a guest on the latest episode of the Record Celtic podcast and the panel talked about many issues surrounding the Parkhead side.

They focused on the club’s 1-1 draw at Rugby Park against Kilmarnock and while talking about it, Gannon criticised Jullien for his performance on Sunday.

Starting with an easy one - which club did Celtic sign Moussa Dembele from?

Ryan Christie had scored in the first half for the Hoops, but Chris Burke scored from the penalty spot some minutes later. It was Jullien who had given away the penalty from which Burke found the back of the net (as per BBC Sport).

Gannon had some criticism for the manner in which the French defender played and he made it very clear in his comments. He believes that the Frenchman, who is valued at £5.4m, struggles to play well against big strikers.

He said: “Jullien now seems to be taken for granted. [He] doesn’t like a plastic pitch, doesn’t like big, strong centre-forwards.

Do you think Jullien is overrated?

Absolutely!

“Listen, he’s probably had two, maybe three bad games for Celtic, really. One was against Livingston, Lyndon Dykes; one was [on Sunday].

“Unfortunately for Jullien, when he has a bad day, he tends to have an epically bad day. It is not just one or two wee mistakes, it is a whole stinking 90 minutes, and I think that was what happened yesterday.”

TIF Thoughts…

Jullien had started beside Kristoffer Ajer against Kilmarnock and apart from having conceded the penalty in the first half, he earned a rating of 6.46/10.

Only Scott Brown, Jeremie Frimpong and Mohamed Elyounoussi were the starters to have picked up worse ratings in the game. However, he did win four aerial duels in the game, making as many as six clearances. He also blocked one shot and gave away two fouls (as per WhoScored).

It shows that while he did some good things at Rugby Park, giving away the penalty didn’t help at all and it ended up costing Celtic.
