On the latest episode of the Last Word on Spurs podcast, Ricky Sacks, Lee McQueen, Jamie Brown and Jason McGovern have been reviewing Tottenham Hotspur’s 2019/20 campaign, with a focus on key results across the season, the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino and appointment of Jose Mourinho, as well as the best and worst performers for the Lilywhites.

One topic of conversation on the recent episode, which was titled ‘2019/20 Season Review & Awards‘, was Spurs youngster Ryan Sessegnon. The 20-year-old was signed from Fulham for £25 million last summer but struggled to have much of an impact in his debut season with the north London club, making just six appearances in the Premier League, averaging a disappointing 6.32 rating (per WhoScored).

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

Here’s what Brown had to say about the England U21 international on the podcast:

“I think Ryan Sessegnon, [he’s] another player who I feel as though Levy was the guy who signed him and that was quite dangerous business, really. That’s the big thing as well, when you see the players that we signed, Sessegnon hasn’t really been able to make an impact.”

TIF Thoughts…

It has been a disappointing season for Sessegnon, and it arguably doesn’t look good for him next season, with Jose Mourinho seemingly set to promote 18-year-old left-back Dennis Cirkin to the first-team next season (per Football.london). It has been suggested that the youngster could leave Spurs on loan, where hopefully regular game-time could help him rediscover the form that saw him named the EFL Championship Player of the Year when he was just 17 years old.

Do you think Sessegnon needs a loan?

However, considering the fee that Spurs paid for Sessegnon, you could argue that he will need to do more to prove to Jose Mourinho that he is capable of making it in the Premier League, or he potentially risks being moved on.
