Spurs fans on Twitter have been reacting to an update from The Athletic journalist David Ornstein, in which he suggests that the north London club will sign a right-back this summer.
The journalist confirmed in his ‘Ask Ornstein’ YouTube video (via The Spurs Web), that Jose Mourinho’s side will sign a right-back this summer and have been looking to strengthen in that position for some time. He adds that they have been offered a variety of options and that Mourinho is keen on an experienced player, although the identity of that player is not yet known.
It is unsurprising to hear that Spurs are keen on a new right-back, considering that Kyle Walker-Peters has already completed a move to Southampton, whilst Serge Aurier continues to be linked with a move to AC Milan. You would imagine that Spurs’ urgency to complete a signing will depend on whether or not the Ivory Coast international leaves the club, but you would hope that the north London club have some targets in mind ahead of next season.
Do you think Spurs will sign a right-back before the new season?
Yes
No

Because we obviously have no clue as to who we’ll sign, the state of this club

The next chess piece to move imo is one or two out who have no Mourinho future. Funds would then be released for the next specialist position.
Right now we have Aurier, Tanganga, Dier and Foyrh who all have RWB covered off.— Spiggty (@SpiggyTope) August 18, 2020

Plenty of Spurs fans were quick to make their own suggestions, with Leicester’s Ricardo Pereira and Wolves’ Matt Doherty proving popular.

Overall, while some Spurs fans seem to think this shows the club don’t know who to sign, other fans were more than happy to make their own suggestions.
