On the latest episode of Sky Sports News’ Transfer Talk podcast, Pete Graves, Dharmesh Sheth and Raphael Honigstein have been discussing the latest transfer rumours in European football.

One topic of conversation on the recent episode was Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and his likely departure from the Saints. The Danish international has been heavily linked with both Spurs and Everton in recent months, although it seems as if Spurs are currently some way off Everton’s bid for the 24-year-old.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

Here’s what Sheth had to say about the latest news on Hojbjerg on the podcast:

“Tottenham and Everton [are] both interested in him, no agreement on a fee as yet. We’re told that Tottenham have offered £15 million while Everton have offered a deal that would rise to £19 million. Southampton though, [are] likely to refuse both of those because they’re holding out for £25 million.

“However, Tottenham might have something going in their favour because they could be interested in discussing a deal with Southampton that could see the on-loan right-back, Kyle Walker-Peters, join Southampton on a permanent basis, he’s been performing really well on loan so far this season. Crucially, Hojbjerg’s preference is to go to Tottenham and to team up with Jose Mourinho.”

TIF Thoughts…

Sheth’s comments are certainly backed up by reports suggesting that Hojbjerg is favouring a move to Spurs over Everton this summer, but it seems as if the north London club will have to increase their bid if they want to see the 24-year-old join ahead of next season. Of course, as the Sky Sports journalist points out, they do have Kyle Walker-Peters as a potential bargaining tool, which could decrease the Saints’ asking price somewhat if he is included in any potential swap deal.

Who is more likely to sign Hojbjerg?

Spurs

Spurs

Everton

Everton

All signs are seemingly pointing towards Hojbjerg joining Spurs this summer, and no doubt Jose Mourinho will want to get the deal done as soon as possible, to give the midfielder as much time as possible to bed into the side ahead of the 2020/21 Premier League campaign.
