Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano recently appeared on an episode of The Beautiful Game podcast to discuss some of the biggest transfer rumours from this summer.

One topic of conversation on the recent episode was Spurs midfielder Tanguy Ndombele. The Frenchman has endured a nightmare debut season with the north London club, with fitness and injury problems regularly proving to be an issue for the club-record signing. Despite this, it seems as if Inter are desperate to sign the 23-year-old this summer, with Romano suggesting that he is the Serie A side’s top target ahead of next season.

Here’s what the journalist had to say about the possibility of Ndombele joining Antonio Conte’s side:

“I think there is a possibility, for sure. What I’m told is that Inter are trying to sign him because they see him as their main target, so Inter have started talks with Tottenham and started offering a swap deal, because Inter [at] this moment can’t pay €60 million to sign Ndombele

“At the moment the situation is that Inter are trying to offer a swap deal with Milan Skriniar, who is a really good defender, he had some problems with Antonio Conte. If Conte will stay [at] Inter, I’m told that Ndombele will be their main target for the midfield.

He then added some thoughts on how the Frenchman’s relationship with Mourinho could impact any potential deal: (13:27)

“Between Ndombele and Mourinho, the feeling is not good and Mourinho would be open to [selling] the player. But Daniel Levy said, ‘Okay, we paid [€60m] for this player one year ago, so I don’t want to sell a player just after one season.'”

TIF Thoughts…

From what Romano says, there certainly seems to be a possibility of Ndombele joining Inter this summer and if it were completely up to Mourinho, then it may not be a surprise to see the Frenchman leave after just one season with the Lilywhites. However, both Conte and Levy will prove key to any potential deal, and it seems as if the Spurs chairman is not willing to give up on the French midfielder easily, which is unsurprising considering the fee they paid for him last summer.
