On the latest episode of the View from The Lane podcast for The Athletic, Jack Pitt-Brooke, James Maw and Charlie Eccleshare have been discussing the latest goings-on at Tottenham Hotspur, with a focus on some of the transfer deals that have occurred so far this summer.

One topic of discussion on the recent episode, which was titled ‘The Curious Signing of Joe Hart’, was former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentinian was briefly linked with a move to Barcelona, following their decision to sack Quique Setien after the embarrassing 8-2 defeat in the Champions League quarter-final earlier this month (per BBC), but they have now announced that Ronald Koeman will take over.

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

Here’s what Maw had to say about the former Spurs boss on the podcast:

“Is there a possibility that Mauricio Pochettino could become the new Alan Curbishley? In all seriousness, though, it seems like he wasn’t in consideration for the Juve job. Seemingly, if he was in consideration for the Barcelona job, they’ve disregarded that quite quickly. We don’t think the Manchester United job is going to come up this summer. Whether or not he actually would have gone to Arsenal, who knows, but obviously, [Mikel] Arteta got that. Where’s he going to go?

“What is there to say that he will get that Madrid job when that comes up? I know that’s been a conversation that’s happened before. But as Jack said, you could say the same about Barcelona. I’m just curious what it is that is stopping him getting these jobs. It just seems very strange to me that this guy’s clearly massively talented and he’s done an incredible job over a prolonged period at a club where regular Champions League football – even that looked an impossibility.”

TIF Thoughts…

Maw certainly seems surprised that Pochettino seemingly wasn’t considered for the Juventus or Barcelona roles recently, with the Italian side opting to appoint Andrea Pirlo following Maurizio Sarri’s sacking (per BBC).

Are you surprised that Pochettino hasn't taken another job yet?

The Argentinian manager certainly transformed Spurs into Champions League regulars during his time with the club, and although things didn’t go to plan for him following the Champions League final, as he was ultimately sacked in November last year, you feel that he arguably does deserve an opportunity to show what he can do at a top European side.
